Dhyan Badri Yatra

The Dhyan Badri temple is located in the Urgam valley, near Kalpeshwar, on the banks of the Alaknanda river. The idol of the temple of Lord Vishnu has four arms, in a meditative position made of black stone. The temple has an image of Lord Vishnu which was founded by Urvarishi. Also, the temple sometimes included in the Panch-Badri list. Additionally, the Brahmins of southern India serve as chief priests in the temple.

Temple Opening & Closing Time

Usually the temple opens at 5 AM in the morning to 12 PM and again at 2 PM in the evening to 9 PM.

Most Exciting Things to Watch

Krishna Janmashtmi: This is a famous Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It occurs according to the Hindu lunisolar calendar and is also a significant holiday for Lord Vishnu’s followers.

Makar Sankranti: This festival held every January to appease the Sun God. It is the first day that the Sun enters Capricorn and marks the lengthening of the day in the coming days. This day also includes colourful decorations, preparing sesame seed candies and children asking for delicacies and pocket money.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Dhyan Badri is from May to June and September to October.

How to Reach

By Plane: the nearest airport is Jolly Grant, located in Dehradun.

By Train: the nearest railway is Rishikesh, which is 255 km from the temple.

By Bus: Dhyan Badri can be reached by bus or taxi from Helang, which is 243 km away on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Road. From Helang, the 12 km walk leads to the Dhyan Badri temple.

There is also a temple dedicated to Shiva built by Adi Shankara. Kalpeshwar Shiva temple is one of the sacred temples of Panch Kedar of Shiva. The temple decorated with works of art and stone sculptures.
