Joshimath served as an important religious center for Hindu pilgrims and located close to one of the four sacred math founded by Adi Guru Shri Shankaracharya in the eighth century. Overlooking the confluence of the Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers in Vishnu Prayag, Joshimath is also the winter home of Lord Badri. At the same time, the idol changes from Badrinath to Joshimath during the winters.

Summer: You can go in summer because the temperature is between 26 and 27 degrees Celsius, even on the hottest days.

Monsoon: During the monsoon season, Joshimath is much more relaxed, and the temperature drops to almost 15 degrees Celsius. It also rains a lot during the monsoon in Joshimath, and therefore if you are planning a trip, we advise you to check the weather forecast.

Winter: The winter temperature varies from 0 to 8 degrees Celsius. But even during this time, Joshimath serves a large number of tourists who love to play in the snow.

How to Reach

By Plane: Jolly Grant airport located 270 km from Joshimath. If you prefer to travel by plane, you can take a flight to this domestic airport in Dehradun. After arriving at the airport, you will find many taxis or taxi services that will take you to Joshimath’s holy town. Cabin expenses will be around 3,000 rupees. The journey will take you six hours to reach Joshimath.

By Train: Rishikesh, which is the nearest railway station, is about 250 km from Joshimath. As you know, Rishikesh is very well connected by rail with all the popular tourist destinations in India. Therefore, you can get to Rishikesh by train and cover the remaining distance by road.

By Bus: If you are leaving from Delhi, it is advisable to get to Rishikesh first. Rishikesh also well connected via the road network to different parts of the country. Joshimath is easily accessible from places like Pauri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Rishikesh, and Srinagar.
