Big update regarding the opening date of Amarnath Yatra 2024

Big news has just come for Opening Date of Amarnath Yatra 2024. This year Amarnath Yatra will begin on June 29 and end on August 19. This means that in 2024, Amarnath Yatra will be just 45 days of duration and not for two months. This is because of the approaching Lok Sabha elections that are scheduled to take place this year in the country. Registration for the Amarnath Yatra will begin on April 15. The news has just flashed on the website of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB).

Route to Amarnath Cave

For many years devotees have taken two main routes to reach the Amarnath Cave. One route is from Pahalgam which is 28 km and the other route is from Baltal, which is 14 km. The Baltal route is shorter but is tougher than the Pahalgam route. More devotees prefer to take the Pahalgam route as it is not as steep as the Baltal route. But in both the routes, devotees have to trek on foot. They also can take the help of a pony to ease the journey. The government sets up camps at important points along the route to Amarnath Cave. Security is tightened and free food and medical camps are also set up along the Amarnath Yatra route.

The Legend of Amarnath Cave

Amarnath Cave is a naturally formed cave near Anantnag in Kashmir. It is located at an altitude of 3800 meters. Amarnath Cave is considered to be the toughest pilgrimage trek in India. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva is said to have told the secret of his immortality to Goddess Parvati in Amarnath Cave. The shivlinga in Amarnath Cave is naturally made of ice, which forms when dripping water from the ceiling of the cave freezes. The specialty of this icy shivlinga is that its shape changes according to the waxing and waning of the moon.
