The township of Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand bears several stories. There is a record of the name being called as Govishan which is evident in the travelogues of the famous Chinese monk Hiuen Tsang who travelled to India during ancient times. Its name later changed to Ujhaini, Ujaini or Ujjayani.

History of Pandav Fort

The place is called Pandavkholi, Pandav fort, and it lies within the beautiful state Uttarakhand in India. According to legend, this fort is connected with Indian epic called the Mahabharata and its Pandava characters. Legend has it that after the battle of Kurukshetra, pandava took a journey for forgiveness by committing atonement. At this point, they arrived at this quiet place where they chose to reflect. Hence the fort is named after caves of the Pandavkholi, which in Hindu belief are said to be the places where the Pandavas meditated. The fort is located amidst lush greenery of Tehri Garhwal region that provides a breathtaking view of the Himalayan range. They are hewn in the rock and associated with the stay of the Pandavas therein.
