Gaumukh
Gaumukh is the terminus of the Gangotri Glacier and the primary source of the Bhagirathi River, which is famous as one of the crucial headstreams of holy Ganges. The place where the Gangotri glacier ends is said to resemble the mouth of a cow and is therefore called Gaumukh. It is situated at an elevation of 13,200 feet from the sea level in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.

Best Time to Visit
September to June is the best time to visit Gaumukh. The sacred site of Gaumukh, from which the glacier finally begins to melt, giving rise to the great river, is best visited from April to June and again from September to November. The winter months are too cold for a visit, and the rain makes transportation difficult during the monsoons, which leave only the spring, summer, and autumn months.
