Big news that has just come is that Kedarnath Temple is going to open for tourists on 10th May at 7:00 AM. This opening of Kedarnath will also commence with the start of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. This was announced today on the festive occasion of Mahashivratri at Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath. This meeting was presided over by the President of Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) Ajayendra Ajay and the chief priest of Kedarnath, Rawal Bhimashankar.

Decorations at Omkareshwar Temple

Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath is the winter seat of Kedarnath. Before the opening date of Kedarnath was announced, the temple was decorated with flowers. It is estimated that 11 quintals of flowers were used for decorating the entire temple. The temple administrators distributed bhandara (community feast) and prasad to devotees on this religious occasion.

Visitors will reach a new record

This year visitors are expected to reach record levels during the 2024 Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra. It may surpass the previous year’s record. The state government and the temple committees are working hand-in-hand to handle the huge influx of devotees to various temples and places of Uttarakhand.

Announcement of Kedarnath portal opening ceremony

The BKTC President further added that elaborate preparations will be made for the benefit of the devotees during the 2024 Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra. A temple committee will visit Kedarnath and monitor the preparations for this grand opening ceremony at Kedarnath. The schedule of various events has been planned accordingly.

Halts planned for the Vigrah Doli Yatra

Speaking at this occasion, Dr. Harish Gaur, who is the media-in-charge of BKTC, announced that Vigrah Doli will start from Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath and reach Kedarnath Temple.
  • May 5 - This yatra of Kedarnath will start with the worship of Lord Bhairavnath.
  • May 6 - The five-faced idol of Lord Kedarnath (Panchmukhi Bhogmurti) will depart from Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath and take halts at various places on the route to Kedarnath.
  • May 6 - The first halt will be at Guptkashi.
  • May 7 - The second halt will be at Phata.
  • May 8 - The third halt will be at Gaurikund.
  • May 9 - The Panchmukhi Doli will reach Kedarnath Dham.
  • May 10 - The doors of Kedarnath Dham will open at 7 am.

Opening dates of Gangotri and Yamunotri

The announcement of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham will be announced only in April. However, the doors of both these temples will open on May 10. This is a very auspicious date, as this is the date of Akshaya Tritiya. Hindus and Jain religions regard this auspicious date as the day of prosperity. This is the reason why the holy dhams of Gangotri and Yamunotri will open on May 10, which is Akshaya Tritiya.

Opening date of Badrinath Dham

The immensely sacred Dham of Badrinath will also open on a very auspicious day. Badrinath Dham is the holy temple of Lord Badri, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This year 2024, Badrinath Dham will open for devotees on May 12. This is also a very auspicious day of Basant Panchami according to the Hindu calendar. Basant Panchami marks the start of the spring season in India. Lord Vishnu is worshipped in a big way to mark this festival. This is the reason why Badrinath Dham will also open its doors to devotees on Basant Panchami.
