Mythology of Nashik Kumbh Mela
The Kumbh Mela in Nashik celebrates one mythological event. This event is known as Samudra Manthan from Hindu mythology. It so happened that the gods and demons churned the ocean to obtain the ‘pot of nectar’, also known as the Amrit Kumbh. Eventually, when the pot of nectar did emerge, the demons snatched it. But Lord Vishnu took the form of Mohini avatar and took the pot of nectar by trick. He flew with the pot of nectar, but some drops of the nectar fell on four places on Earth. Out of the four places, one of them was Nashik. The divine drops of nectar fell at the place called Ramkund in Nashik. This celestial event is the main reason behind the Nashik Kumbh Mela.
